Answered prayer in Bujumbura |
|
|
|
|
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Many thanks for your prayers. Thankfully the majority of evangelists have arrived on time, safely and in good health (much to our surprise :). The remaining evangelist Antoine is due to arrive tomorrow from Rwanda.
Today the team had a good time in churches and some also toured the surrounding areas of the city. Greater awareness of the mission was raised, and over 100 people responded to the preaching - the vast majority responding for the first time to submit to Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Vice President Addresses Student Leaders |
|
|
|
On July 12, AE Kenya played host to the annual National Student
Leadership Forum (NSLF) of Kenya. More than 250 passionate and
expectant student leaders, drawn from right across Kenya, came together
at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi.
In
2008 the keynote speaker was Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Vice President of
Kenya. Kalonzo, along with other influential leaders, shared from the
Bible and their own personal life experiences. They highlighted the
importance of leadership that is tolerant, inclusive, free of
corruption, greed and selfishness. The forum underlined the fundamental
role these young leaders must play in reconciliation efforts in their
communities following the recent crisis in Kenya.
AEE has been the driving force behind the NSLF vision and
subsequent implementation since the forum’s inception in 2006. AE’s
Team Leader, Stephen Mbogo, has served as Co-Patron of the forum.
Stephen, who is about to go with his family to the USA to pursue
Doctoral studies in the area of leadership, gave a passionate final
address to the forum. Mbogo shared his vision for the future of
leadership in Kenya and the potential that the young leaders in the
audience represented. He encouraged the forum to commit to a model of
leadership that involves serving rather than being served – a concept
that was foreign to many because of the poor example of many of today’s
influential leaders.
The
forum is part of AE’s ongoing commitment to leadership development
across the continent. Esther Mueni, from Jomo Kenyatta University said
“There cannot be a better way to grow and nurture today’s and
tomorrow’s leaders if we are to witness a positive change in leadership
and governance.”

Canadian people have been tremendous supporters of AE and it’s mission to Evangelise the cities of Africa, through Word and Deed, in Partnership with the Church. The support was present from the very beginning of AE in 1961 when Michael Cassidy left Fuller Seminary in California with a few classmates to conduct an outreach to the provincial capital of Pietermaritzburg in South Africa. One of his partners then was Paul Birch, now the Emeritus Chairman of the AE Canada Board.
In a recent newsletter I gave you a look at what goes into the planning and proclamation phases of an AE City-wide Mission. This month I want to show you what the results look like – with just a small glimpse at lives that have been changed by the work you helped enable African Enterprise to do in Lilongwe, Malawi thanks to your partnership with us.

Kibera Peace, Healing and Reconciliation Initiative |
|
|
|
|
Some churches were burned or looted. Others lost many members to migration out of the community as a result of ethnic clashes. This is the recent story of Kibera, Kenya, the second-largest slum in Africa, after Soweto in South Africa. Some one million inhabitants call it home, representing one-fourth of the population of the city of Nairobi, located to the northeast. As it is also a melting pot of all of Kenya’s ethnic groups, it experienced untold unrest and tension in the aftermath of Kenya’s controversial presidential election in December 2007.
